Easter gift bags bring joy to the Cancer Ward

ICW Ghana volunteers visiting a child on the ward with a gift bag

For a child in hospital, the days can feel long and frightening โ€” especially when treatment stretches across weeks and months. This Easter, our members wanted to bring a little light into those days. So we prepared gift bags and carried them onto the wards of the Korle Bu Children's Teaching Hospital.

We visited children in the Cancer Ward and other pediatric wards, handing out gifts intended to bring joy, comfort and encouragement to young patients and their families during a genuinely challenging time.

More than a gift

The bags were small, but the moments were not. A smile, a few minutes of play, a reminder to a family that they are seen and supported โ€” these are the things that sit at the heart of ICW Ghana's philosophy: that true healing extends beyond medicine to emotional and psychological well-being.

"No child should face cancer without hope, care, or support."

Moments like these are only possible because of our supporters and volunteers. Earlier in the year, our bake sale at the DPSI Christmas Fair โ€” run in partnership with IgniteHerFuture โ€” raised GHโ‚ต9,000 in profit, dedicated to supporting children receiving medical care and improving their hospital experience.

What comes next

This outreach is part of a wider commitment to children battling cancer in Ghana โ€” alongside our awareness workshops on early detection and our donations of essential supplies to the hospital. And with every event, our youth-led team grows more determined.

This is only the beginning โ€” and you can be part of what comes next.
